On living your ideal life.

Somewhere along the way, the majority of people got spoonfed the same idea about how to live the ideal life.
Probably by that depressed alcoholic teacher in 4th grade. Remember?

Anyways, it goes like this: go to school, get good grades, get one or more college/university degrees, get a job, work until 65 and after that, you can enjoy life.
This idea was never appealing to me for 3 simple reasons.
  1. I had 2 fellow students dying before they even attended college
  2. I didn’t understand why I’d have to wait until 65 to do what I wanted. An athletic career at that age is certainly out of the picture. Your life is not over but a lot of opportunities are simply gone.
  3. After suffering from depression and suicidal tendencies at the age of 21, I was forced to change my perspective on life.
So at the age of 23, I dropped out of college. Back then, I had the slightest idea of what I wanted but I knew what I didn’t want to do so that was a driving factor for me to drop out.
Fast forward to May 2019. I had quit my job a couple of months ago to live 3 months in Thailand to fight. I’d just won my first fight and was talking to someone about how to live your ideal life. (read more about the fight here)
The person in question had the slightest clue what he wanted to do in life and he came to Thailand to escape the Social pressure for a bit.
So I asked, “what would you do in life if money didn’t matter”.
“I’d open a coffee shop”, he said.
After that, he realized what he wanted and what he had to do.
Out of curiosity, he asked me the same question.
My answer was “this”.
I found my ideal life through trial and error not because I listened to other people.
As soon as you stop going to school, There’s a lot of pressure to get a job instantly and to make a lot of money.
Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and ask yourself what you really want in life and not what others want for you in life.
The majority of people who force you to do those things have the slightest clue what they want in life and are the most miserable.
They have the crabs in the bucket mentality.
Don’t fall into this trap.
Don’t wait until you’re 65.
Ask yourself what you would do if money didn’t matter and then try to achieve that.
