Me- time is important but not why you think.

Me- time is really important in life but not why you might think. You see most people don't really have it at all. They might think that they have it but the reality shows something completely different. There's a difference between wasting time and actually having me- time.

Me- time is really important in life but not why you might think. You see most people don’t have it at all. They might think that they have it but the reality shows something completely different. There’s a difference between wasting time, relaxing and having me- time. But that’s the thing, most people can’t be on their own. They just can’t. They’re constantly surrounded by other people or are performing all sorts of escapism to avoid their thoughts. Stuff like scrolling through Instagram or other stuff. There’s no way that you’re able to have time to yourself that way. What are you even accomplishing by doing it? You’ll probably envy other people’s lives on social media and most of those lives aren’t worth envying at all. You’re probably wondering what I mean by the concept, don’t you? You might be even confused, no?  Well, maybe you should challenge your own beliefs and redefine the concept?

Me- time is important but not why you think.

It’s the time where you’re completely on your own with your thoughts. I have this first thing in the morning and somewhere during the day. It’s a time where I can reflect on things without being disrupted by others. So many people try to avoid this but I embrace it. This is the time where I can improve as a person or as a martial artist. You see dealing with your thoughts forces you to see where they come from and they aren’t all pretty. It isn’t always sunshine and rainbows but you have to deal with those as well. I mean do you want to face the same problems 10 years from now? That would mean that you’ve wasted 10 freaking years.

So many people are still the same. Well, not the same. Their ego get’s bigger and they become dumber. Is it harsh when I say this? It might but it’s also true. Most adults act like they’re the king of the world. They act like they’ve got it all figured out. Which is ignorant and dumb. How can you claim that you know everything when you don’t even know yourself?! Getting to know the real you isn’t easy. It takes time and a lot of work. So tell me, do you even know the real you?

How to have quality me- time.

People might claim that watching a movie is quality time with yourself and it might for some people but I don’t see it that way. You see watching a movie doesn’t make you think. You’re just sitting in front of a screen to kill time. But there’s nothing wrong with watching a movie if you want to relax. I just rarely do it on my own. I mostly do it with friends. One of my favorite quality time activities is just walking a dog. That’s quality time with myself. Or just sitting on my own in a coffee shop with a notebook to write down my thoughts (the good, the bad and the ugly). Some people might claim that only sad people sit alone but do they? It’s pretty sad if you can’t be on your own.

It’s like Bruce Lee said:

“Only the self-sufficient stand alone – most people follow the crowd and imitate.”

It’s easy to sit in a bar with other people. It’s doesn’t take a lot of courage to do it. But it takes a lot of guts to sit on your own and face your thoughts. That’s what courageous people do. That’s what people who want to improve their lives do.

Stuff to think about no?

So think about this next time you’re thinking about sleeping through the day or when you’re ready to binge-watch your day away. Does this benefit your life? Will you solve all your problems if you try to escape them? Won’t they just follow you wherever you go? You can travel around the world but every unsolved problem will travel with you. That’s just unwanted baggage if you ask me.

Schedule some of me-time once a week. Just an hour can be enough to get the ball rolling. You’ll learn a lot about yourself in an hour. Trust me on this one. That’s the power of silence and solitude. That’s what makes you a better person and becoming a better person will make you happy.
