Why you shouldn’t wait for opportunities in life.

Have you ever heard people claim that they're waiting for the right opportunities? You would almost feel sorry for these people, don't you?! They always seem to be on a place where not a single opportunity occurs. But the reality is that it isn't sad.

Have you ever heard people claim that they’re waiting for the right opportunities? You would almost feel sorry for these people, don’t you?! They always seem to be in a place where not a single opportunity occurs. But the reality is that it isn’t sad. It’s their fault that they don’t find these opportunities in life. There’s a great quote that goes like: “Life is not a spectator sport. If watchin’ is all you’re going to do, you’re going to watch your life go by without ya”. This is straight from a kids’ movie. The movie is called “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. Crazy right. There’s a lot of wisdom in these movies. Anyways, you shouldn’t wait in life and here’s why.

Why you shouldn’t wait for opportunities in life: enter the bus.

Waiting for an opportunity is like waiting for a bus…. while you’re at home. Do you get where I’m heading? People are always crying that nothing happens but they don’t take action either. You can wait your whole life while you sit on your couch but nothing will happen. Well, something will happen. Your life will pass by and you’ll feel cheated by life. But who cheated on who? Life on you or you on yourself? I mean you didn’t do the effort to walk to the bus so how can you even complain that you’ve missed it? Shouldn’t you start walking? Just do it!

Why you shouldn’t wait for opportunities in life.

Most people live in ‘if this happens then this will happen’ scenarios. A certain event has to occur before they can be happy or whatever they want to feel. There are 2 problems with this kind of mindset. The first one is that you link your happiness to something that you can’t control so you’ll be even more miserable. The second problem is that you’ll wait until it happens. I know that I wrote a blog about the fact that waiting is a part of life and that you’re wasting it. Well, this is a prime example of it.

Do you want to compete in a sport? Start training and work your butt off.

Want to be happily married? Start working on yourself and you’ll meet the woman of your dreams eventually. You don’t know how and when so you better keep on working.

I’m single and I enjoy it. I recently traveled on my own to Stockholm for 9 days. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I don’t tell you this because the training was great. I enjoyed my own company.

In conclusion

You want things in life, I get it. It’s normal. I want things as well. Everybody wants certain things in life. That’s all okay but it’s not okay to claim that you want something and then do nothing at all. That’s what most people do. They talk the talk but never walk the walk. It’s easy to talk but it’s a lot harder to walk. I just keep on working on the things that I want in life. Maybe I’ll make serious progress a week from now but maybe it’ll take me 5 more years before I can cross some things off my goal list. Patience, just like work ethic, is a virtue so you’d better master it.

Don’t wait for opportunities because they won’t wait for you either. Work and grasp the opportunity with both hands when it presents itself to you. In other words: get on the freaking bus when the bus arrives at the bus stop. That’s it.
