Do you have an abundance mindset? I applaud you if you’ve got one! But chances are you’re not even aware of the existence of this kind of mindset. You see most people have a scarcity mindset and that mindset makes things mostly worse. The scarcity mindset will make sure that you live in a constant state of fear or grief. They’re either afraid of something they might lose or they’ve lost it and can’t handle the fact that they’ve lost it. That’s not healthy and that’s why I want to introduce the abundance mindset right now. I’ll explain to you how I implemented this mindset in my own life and how you can as well.

The abundance mindset: learn to walk away.

I lived in Thailand for 3 months but I needed to quit my job to make that possible. I remember the state of mind I was in. Constantly waiting for the right time to do it, constantly holding myself back and so on. I mean the idea to quit and travel was always there. I started in October where I wanted to quit and travel to Stockholm to train. Eventually, I quit on the 15th of February and one month later I was on the plane to Thailand. I returned to Belgium almost 4 months later because I made a stop in Germany and Greece (to join Muay Thai vacations). After that, I came back to Belgium, worked on my blog and eventually took a temporary job as a mailman.

Since I had made some decent money blogging but I needed more money because I returned to Thailand on the 19th of September with the intention of a longer stay.

The abundance mindset: Learn to walk away.

You how long I worked as a mailman? A little over 3 weeks and then I just quit. Yes, you read it correctly. I quit and I had good reason to do it. They were exploiting people who did it as a summer job or were on a trial but in my case, it was even worse. They fucked me over 3 days in a row and on the third day I told them I quit. Here’s how it went down.

Saturday 10/08/2019

I came into the office and I looked at the schedule on when I have to work the week after that. They didn’t schedule me in but for me, it doesn’t matter because I got a new job offer while I was handing out newspapers. Eventually, they make me wait for half an hour and tell me that I have to start working at 4:45 in the morning.

Monday 12/08/2019

I arrive on time at my job, which is like a miracle on its own, and I ask where I have to be because they never mentioned it. Nobody in the office knew so they had to check. Turns out I had to start at 7:20 instead of 4:45 and they politely ask me to go back home and come back later. I was pretty pissed of about that one but I didn’t say a lot about it. It was a sign that this was a poorly organized company. I later came back and they let me follow another guy on this round.

Tuesday 13/08/2019

One day of training was sufficient according to them so they put me alone on the new round. They took some workloads of me so I did my thing and left. Later I would find out that I forgot some things but nobody told me so I didn’t know. I drove to my destination and start the round on my bike. By then I noticed that the sky was getting darker and I looked for protective clothing in the car and on the bike (where it should have been). I didn’t find anything so I just decided to finish the round as soon as possible.

30 minutes before the end of the round it started raining cats and dogs and I didn’t have a shelter so I was soaked. Eventually, I found a bridge but it didn’t matter because the wind blew all the rain on me. I was standing there for 15 min and by the end of it, I was shivering. My muscles started cramping so I took the bike to the car and drove home to make sure that I could my body temperature rising again. It took me some time to warm up again and by that time it was 3 in the afternoon which should have been the end of my round. I drove back to the office in sweatpants and a winter coat (I kid you not) and explained the whole situation.

I asked if I could finish the day after because I was on the same round anyways. They told me that I had to finish the round and told me that weather like this occurs in Belgium. I also had to beg for protective clothing and I only got pants. I also had to promise to return the protective clothing. Truth to be told, I never finished the round, I just went home and cooked some food. But I was extremely pissed then.

Wednesday 13/08/2019

I wasn’t too happy to return. I asked for protective clothing against the rain first thing in the morning and they told me they didn’t have any. They also increased my workload and I would have never been able to stop in time with all that work. They also didn’t pay overtime. Aside from that, it looked like it was going to rain again. I put everything in the car and went to the place which had offered me a job on Saturday. I explained my situation at my current job and the whole upcoming Thailand trip. They told me to call in the afternoon before I had to stop working to see if they could still use me. I did my round, quit my job and then called if I had the other job.

So what would you have done? Be honest here because I know most of the people would have stayed. That’s what 99% of the people did over there who got mistreated. They complained but they never changed a single thing. People were working there for over a year and they hated it. Some of them even got called at 4 in the morning on their day off to come to work. Saying no wasn’t an option. Those people probably never heard of airplane mode.

You just have two options when it comes to shit like this. You either tell them to fack of and quit or you keep complaining and do enough to not get fired. I can guarantee you that someone with that last mentality would have to clean up all the stuff that I left behind because they don’t realize the power of the word no.

The abundance mindset: Learn to walk away.

Most people don’t leave because of that scarcity mindset. They’re afraid because they assume that they won’t find another job. And this mindset isn’t related to a job it mostly carries across in other aspects of their life. Like money (fear of having no money), relationships (the one that got away or people who stay in a bad relationship because they’re afraid to get out there), friendships (fear of finding no new friends and so on). But let’s be honest here. Money is a man-made invention, there’s more than enough in this world. There’s no such thing as the one. I mean do you believe that in 7.712 billion people there should only be one who is destined to be with you. Like only one? Did you watch too many Disney- or dumb unrealistic romantic movies?!

The same goes for friendships. You understand where I’m getting at right? There are always options if you keep your head up and start being real!

I could name 4 jobs in an instant where I would have been able to start after I quit as a mailman. And that’s even without doing research. I eventually got the one that was offered me on that Saturday.

The abundance mindset: Learn to walk away.

People mostly explain the abundance mindset when it comes to rejection in any field. People focus so much on the missed opportunity that they miss the opportunities ahead of them. They lack the mindset to see other possibilities and that’s where the abundance mindset comes in. You’re aware of your possibilities so every time you’re in a dead-end job, friendship, relationship… You can either try to solve it or just walk away because the day after tomorrow you will find new jobs and people.

Being aware of this will make sure that you never feel stuck again because you always have the power to walk away and be happy again.

Fear of the unknown.

People who’re aware of their options sometimes get paralyzed by the fear of the unknown. The thing is that you have to flow with the go. You can prepare endlessly but there will be occasions where you’ll have to face new obstacles. I planned out a lot before I quit my job the first time. The second time I didn’t overthink it that much. I was even laughing at the fact that I played it way too safe the first time but you can only learn that stuff by getting out of your comfort zone in the unknown.

You can play it safe your whole life and ask yourself what if I’d done it or you can just do it, have crazy adventures and tell those to your grandchildren or in your autobiography. I mean the story ‘I went to school, worked until 65 and retired after that’ is like listening to the same old song over and over again.

Where is your sense of adventure?

What about chasing your childhood dreams?!

Do you want to live on the boulevard of broken dreams?!

Stuff to think about but why would you remain stuck in Plato’s cave? Comfort is for the weak!

Beware of this.

People see me do all these things but I wasn’t always good at it. I had the scarcity mindset back in the days and I didn’t serve me in any way. Back then I used to complain a lot about things that I could have changed by taking action or just walking away. The worst part was that I was surrounded by complainers as well so we were putting each other down. Your environment matters, well kind off!

It’s easy to surround yourself with people who complain all the time. It’s a lot harder to cut yourself loose and do the right thing. I was once like the people who complained but I changed my approach and started to take action. I can honestly tell you that my life drastically improved after doing it. And you can do it as well. The question is; do you have what it takes to do the right thing?!
