Would you make your 18-year-old version proud?

Would you ever like to meet the 18-year-old version of yourself? Would be great right? See yourself as the little kid that you once were.

Would you ever like to meet the 18-year-old version of yourself? It would be great right? See yourself as the little kid that you once were. Just seeing how ignorant you once were or maybe you’ll see that you’re still the same? It’s possible, some people rarely ever change. Indeed, they rarely do. Just look around you, some people even look the same and do the same things. Some people are extremely afraid of change. They’re afraid of getting out of their comfort zone. It’s hard to accept this fact and it only becomes harder as you get older. But I’ve preached enough. Let’s start this blog off right. Let’s take a good look in the mirror.

Would you make your 18-year-old version proud?

Somebody asked me if I knew the definition of success. So I was like ‘live the life that you’ve always wanted to live’. But that was not what he was looking for. He told me that the definition was pretty simple “look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if you would make your 18-year-old version of yourself proud”. Why 18 you ask? Because most people at 18 aren’t corrupted by life. They don’t feel cheated by life yet. But you have to be honest with yourself. Don’t try to impress your 18-year-old version because you have a company car, tons of bed partners, average wealth or your so-called reputation. Be honest with yourself and leave your ego out of the question. Would you be a person whom you look up to or a person whom you’re ashamed of?

Would you want to keep on living as you live now or would you cry and try to change your life? So I reflected on this. Would I make myself proud at that age?

Would you make your 18-year-old version proud?

I started to figure out how I lived at the age of 18. I figured out that I wouldn’t have been proud of myself if had continued on this path. It’s safe to say that I changed a lot in those 7 years, although I didn’t accomplish a lot in the first 4 years. I had a failed long-term relationship, dropped out of college and tons of others “failures” which I couldn’t handle properly. But something changed, I got a wake-up call and made a difference. Since then I overcame depression, started a blog, wrote a book (childhood dream), started MMA (I always wanted to box as a kid), got in shape (I was always skinny), learned how to handle failure, traveled on my own to Stockholm and so on.

Man, the 18-year-old version of me won’t even believe in what I’ve turned into. I did more in the last 3 years than I did in my entire life. I started to live life instead of feeling lived and it feels so great. Even with all the hate from other people. I’m just going to keep on continuing what I’m already doing since I love it. But what about you?

Would you make your 18-year-old version proud?

It was fun for me to be able to reflect on the past 3 years for a little moment. But how about you? Would you want to meet an 18-year-old you? Would you make yourself proud or would you label yourself as a total loser? I know this is a hard question but don’t fall into the trap of just saying yes. Be honest with yourself. Would you be proud? Did you achieve things that you always wanted to or are you just the same? Are you feeling fulfilled? Are you a good person? Do you things that fill you with joy? Would you make yourself proud?

You’re a success if you’re able to say yes.

You’re not unsuccessful if you say no, you just have to work on yourself and make sure that you do make yourself proud. I just hope that you start right now and not tomorrow.

Take this simple sentence into consideration if you’re afraid to make a change: ever tried, ever failed. Never tried, never failed. Good luck.
