Do you have a busy or a productive lifestyle?

This may come as a shocker to you but being busy doesn’t equal a successful lifestyle. Let's get into why this isn't the case.

This may come as a shocker to you but being busy doesn’t equal a successful lifestyle. Most people assume that the busiest people are the most successful but those people get nothing done. You can watch television all day but that doesn’t mean that you’re going to get anything done. Most people use the “I’m too busy” excuse way too often in my opinion. You have to read between the lines when it comes to this one. Those people just don’t consider it as a priority but use the no time excuse to cancel on you or other things.

But this is the most common form of the ‘no time’ excuse. I’ve heard way worse situations where people claimed that they couldn’t get a simple thing done. The worst one was when someone was complaining that it was impossible to make his bed. He didn’t have time to do it. How can’t you make time to make up a bed? How long does it take? 30 seconds? Maybe a minute if you’re still a bit sleepy. I’m really worried about you if you don’t have a minute in a day. You’re heading to burn out city and that city has a large population these days.

Busy vs productive: are you a yes man?

Busy people will say yes to anything because they have too much spare time. They’re bored so they are looking for a distraction to kill the time. You can spend hours on social media (extremely boring); you can chat hours with other people about nothing…. The options are endless these days. I don’t even get how you can be bored in this day and age, to be honest. Well, I get it otherwise I wouldn’t devote a whole blog post about it.

So busy people say yes to almost everything which can make sure that they’re days are pretty chaotic. They meet up with tons of people, go to 3 parties on a single day and they hate on the productive people because they’ve got nothing better to do.

No yes, man?

Successful people, on the other hand, don’t say yes to everything. They look at the options and take an option that’ll make sure that they’ll progress in life. There’s a popular meme about this kind of behavior. There are two people in a different household, the first one is happy that he’s going to watch television at night and the other is a bit frustrated that he’s going to learn something new. But can you guess what happens? Their mood shifts. The person who watched television will feel like he’s wasted a part of his life, feel mentally tired and go to sleep just because he feels bored. The other person will be satisfied and extremely happy. Two different scenarios with two different outcomes.

Why do you think that successful people can get up so early? They want to kick start their day the right way. Sleeping till noon is for the “busy people”.  I could be on a vacation in France right now but I declined the offer. It was a tempting offer but I had other priorities this week.

Too many goals vs priorities

Ever tried to read 5 books at a time? It doesn’t work, does it? You can’t do 5 things at once but some people claim that it’s possible. It’s far from productive. Multitasking is a myth! So busy people just do tons of things at once but don’t do a single one in a good way.

Productive people have stubborn priorities. They have a goal list and do the important one first. No distractions from the highest priority than you move on the next priority. So yes that means that you’re not using your phone while you’re working. Bruce Lee said: one does not accumulate but does eliminate. Simplicity is the key to productivity.

The multitasking has been debunked in multiple books but my favorite one is The One Thing (buy it here). That book will help you find your one thing in life (it took me a couple of months) and will teach you how to be more productive.

So buy the book and a notebook (buy one here) as well. You’ll feel extremely happy when you’re able to check off your tasks one by one.

Just in time or unrealistic deadlines?

Some people finish their tasks just in time because they aren’t productive at all. Some people do random dumb things while they’re working on a task. Those people always assume that they’re productive but that just something that their delusional mind makes them believe. Wasting time isn’t the same as being productive. Productive people don’t spend time watching funny videos online.

Productive people take immediate action and set unrealistic deadlines. They just set a time block and start hustling.

Some people claim that they can’t work harder but that’s far from true. Imagine that someone is pointing a gun to your head. Would you be able to finish the task before the unrealistic deadline? I bet you would. Just don’t come up with excuses because they’ll make sure that you’ll never grow as a person.

Busy or productive? The hate towards others

Some people make time in a day to read my blog to be able to laugh at me. There are just some people who like to focus on others instead of focusing on what matters. They’re just so full of themselves that they don’t see that they’re ignorant. Their perception defines their reality but they don’t realize that theirs isn’t the only reality. For example, some people are optimistic while others are pessimistic. They both have a different view on events but they can’t view the world from the opposite view. Busy people are so busy hating on others that they don’t find time to be productive. Sad you say? Yes, it’s sad but it’s also true.

Productive people, on the other hand, will lift others when they can. They focus on their tasks but will find time to help people who need it. They realize that hating on others is a waste of time. The same goes for returning hate. That’s even worse. You’re going to die one day and I can’t imagine that you’ll lay satisfied with your dead bed because you gave people a hard time.

The inevitable choice

Your time will pass by and it doesn’t matter if you’re busy or productive. The outcome is almost the same. Almost the same? Well yes because productive people will be grateful and satisfied when the end is near. Busy people, on the other hand, will face regret on their death bed. Choices shape your life whether you like it or not. So what are you going to be? Busy or productive? The choice is yours.
