Why everybody should live in Ko Pha Ngan for 3 months.

Have you ever heard of Ko Pha Ngan? It’s the home of the infamous Full Moon Party. It took me 2 weeks on the island to hear what all the fuzz was all about and I never even went. Ko Pha Ngan is paradise and that might be an understatement. The beaches are beautiful, the people are nice, the food is cheap, the weather is great, plus 50% of the population is Western. That last one is kind of a blessing and a curse at the same time. Just Google the place, you’ll be amazed. So now people will be like: “Alex, you want me to live on a tropical island for 3 months?! Let me start packing”. Now hold on Cowboy, don’t start packing yet. The reason why I want you to live here is not for all the things that I mentioned above.

They make life a lot more enjoyable but there’s another reason why you should live here.

Why everybody should live in Ko Pha Ngan for 3 months.

I wanted to make sure that you were sold on the idea of coming to Ko Pha Ngan. It’s easy to get blinded by the idea of the island before you’ve even been here and being here for 3 months might just show who you are. You see 3 months is a long time so most people start to think about what they want. I’ve met a lot of people who claimed that they wanted to fight, I met aspiring bloggers, authors, Instagram models and so on. They all talked a lot and they all had one thing in common. They all gave in to all the distractions of the island.

The island just seems so perfect and people forget that perfect things just don’t exist.

The blessing and the curse of Ko Pha Ngan.

You see there are a lot of distractions on Ko Pha Ngan. You’re probably able to party every single day, the beaches are always beautiful (never seen a beach like Haad Rin). There are a lot of fun people and drugs are illegal but also widely available and cheap in comparison to the West. The full moon party is notorious for its drug offers and drunk people (read this article about how it changed in 30 years. I can’t confirm the stories about the violence though, never heard anything about fights). I was planning to check it out but didn’t even bother after seeing how wasted people were at 10 in the evening. You had to be completely out of it to enjoy this party, that’s kind of hard for a guy that doesn’t drink alcohol. But that’s what most people like about this island. The island offers an escape to reality or a platform for a better life. Most people want the latter but do the first.

I didn’t know all this stuff when I came here. My mentor had warned me for the distraction though I just didn’t know that they were so present. He also told me that I would meet a lot of great people who have goals. That was a fact. I think I met 5 or 6 people who didn’t give in to all those distractions and who were achieving something. Let this sink in for a moment. 5 or 6 people who’re doing what they told they would do and I’ve met a lot of people.

But Alex, what about the girls?

Chasing girls is something that I don’t bother with, to be honest. Thai women aren’t my type either so that makes things easy. Most Western guys prefer Thai women instead of Western women though. But my take on this is easy: they don’t have an issue with western women, they have issues with women in general. They will have the same problems as back home. It’s a subtle form of escapism because at one point they all claim that all Thai women are no good either.

People warned me before I came here that I would be swarmed by Thai women. Never happened to be honest. There was one local girl that slipped into my DM’s after the fight on Instagram. To this day on I still have no clue what the purpose of the conversation was. It was awkward and I wanted it to end rather quickly because it felt more like an interrogation.

I can imagine that this is paradise if you’re looking to get laid. But my goal was to fight and release my new book on Amazon so that’s what I did. You can check my new book “The Year Of The Alpha: 366 Lessons On Adding Meaning To Your Life” out here. You can pick the book up for 0.99 dollars right now, be quick because the price will go up to 9.99 again rather soon.

Why everybody should live in Ko Pha Ngan for 3 months.

This island will expose people in a couple of days because they have no excuses here. They can’t say that their job makes sure that they don’t have time (a popular excuse in the west). Besides all those other excuses will make sure that you never grow.

So talk all you want but realize that you’re wasting your potential if you give in to the distractions.

So show me if you’re that ambitious.

Book the ticket, take the plain and show what you’re made off.

Why everybody should live in Ko Pha Ngan for 3 months.

2 months ago I stepped on the plane to Ko Pha Ngan as the little Belgian kid that was going out into the world to chase his dreams. This trip has been highlighted by a lot of personal growth and small achievements along the way. I can cross a lot of my goal list right now and I still have a couple of weeks left here where I have the intention to achieve a lot more.

People called me boring during this trip because I didn’t do what most people did. I was mostly working or training but in the end, they were all surprised by the things that I achieved. I highlighted my thoughts about this in an Instagram post (check it out here).

Post-fight vibes

After my fight, I went to the camera and said “welcome to The Zero To Alpha show”. You better believe it because I’m just getting started. How about you?!

  • Nice breakdown Alex. I know farang and Thai folks who lived there for a bit. Fascinating island for sure. I left Chiang Mai 2 weeks ago; already miss Thailand heaps.

Thank you, Ryan! Yes, it’s a fascinating place for sure! You left Chiang Mai? Headed back to the West?
