I’ll never regret my college dropout.

I’m a college dropout and I don’t mind, to be honest. Many people are curious why I still didn’t return to college and there are multiple reasons so I could at least devote a blog post about it. Let me start this blog with a funny story. There were 7 people with a university degree in a room. This starts as a good joke, doesn’t it? I was the 8th person in that room. So on paper, I would have been the dumbest person in the whole room. Well, that turned out a bit different. I learned a lot in that room and I was there for 1 hour tops. My observations have proven me right over time. A fancy degree will never impress me. Let me end this introduction with 2 great quotes from Frank Zappa:

“If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library.”

“Drop out of school before your mind rots from exposure to our mediocre educational system. Forget about the Senior Prom and go to the library and educate yourself if you’ve got any guts. Some of you like Pep rallies and plastic robots who tell you what to read.”

The college dropout and the room filled with “smart people”.

The one and only Mister Alpha

I remember this day so well. I was bored extremely quickly. You see I don’t drink alcohol and they wanted to play drinking games. What a great way to spend a Saturday night am I right? So they called me boring a couple of times. The usual peer pressure for not drinking alcohol. So I played along with water. I barely said anything during all that time because they talked about the same topics over and over again. Reality shows, the news, sports, work, and past hangover experiences. It took me 5 seconds to figure out that I didn’t belong in this room. Those people were drinking all their troubles away. They didn’t live life. All of them were a victim of life. They were shying away from life. They had no clue on how to maintain a healthy relationship and had no purpose in life as well.

Saving money wasn’t their best trait either. They could spend it though. So they did two things. They just fucked around or fucked up. Oh, and they partied a lot. Partying all the time doesn’t sound like a life purpose if you ask me. They invited me to another party but it was good. I just went home and got some good night’s sleep. They all assumed that there was something wrong with me. I had the same opinion about them. The difference was that I don’t follow the herd.

The college dropout: the difference between learning and knowing.

I love learning new stuff but it has to apply to live. You see in college you don’t learn stuff. You’re supposed to know stuff. That river is that long, the definition of this is that and blablabla. I can Google all that stuff in the blink of a second. You’re able to reproduce facts so what?! Who cares?! Every 8 year old can reproduce facts as well. The sad part is that most people have an enormous ego. They have a degree so they have to be smart right? I know a lot of dumb people who have one or multiple degrees. The same goes for the college dropouts as well of course. Dropping out of college won’t necessarily make you smart. No school will teach you how to live a fulfilling life. That’s something that you’ve got to learn yourself.

Just look at many people feel cheated by life. They feel cheated by life but they cheated themselves by following the system. I mean who wouldn’t be happy when they find a new shit job for a big company which requires them to work 10 hours a day, spend hours in traffic and are tired all the time? It sounds like a party if you ask me! Let’s celebrate from Friday night until Sunday morning of course.

How can you expect to live a great life if you never challenge your own beliefs from time to time?! Only ignorant people have the same beliefs as 10 years ago.

The college dropout who’s unworldly and doesn’t mind.

Awaiting challenges with a view

I never watch the news and I’ll never will (read here why). I don’t get why people like to watch it anyways. It doesn’t make you happy and it’s not the best time investment either. So why would you watch it? I know why because the news makes you reproduce facts as well (the college mindset). You know stuff but the news will never learn you anything useful. The world is a beautiful place with great people and people who watch the news will never acknowledge this. The world is a dark, horrible place according to them.

People who watch the news like to mock me because I know nothing about it. They call me unworldly and I don’t care. I don’t fill my head with stuff that I can find on Google. It’s a waste of time and energy. We’ll see who the smart guy is when we all have to face failure or adversity. I fix those things while most others keep on complaining about it. If there’s anything that you need to remember from this post then it’s that complaining solves all your problems right away! I’m highly sarcastic right now. It doesn’t solve anything so why are you still doing it?!

The college dropout who keeps on failing at small talk.

Maybe we’ll meet someday who knows. I advise you to try to small talk with me. It’ll be the most awkward conversation out of your whole life. I suck at it and I don’t want to be good at it. But I always wonder how “smart people” can spend so much time talking about the weather or other dumb stuff. It’s just because they’re reproducing facts once again. I always want to applaud these people and tell them that they’ve got the observing ability of a 4-year-old. Small talk is boring. Talk about more interesting stuff like the meaning of life for example (read my blog about the meaning of life here). Tell me what you learned and not what you know or can observe.

The same goes for gossiping off course. Complete waste of time.

The college dropout who doesn’t feel dumb at all.

I’ve been called dumb a lot by now. The people who call me dumb do this without even knowing me. Their logic goes as follows:

  • He doesn’t have a degree so he must be dumb. I mean I have to be extremely dumb right?
  • He doesn’t know anything about the world so he must be dumb.
  • My all-time favorite: he’s always happy. There’s something wrong with him.

I don’t care man. I don’t. People’s opinion leaves me cold, to be honest. Are you wondering why? Because I don’t put limits on myself. Whatever I believe, I will achieve. It might just take some time and a lot of work of course. I’m an average bloke who hit rock bottom and worked his way up again. I’m the average Joe that likes to work hard. I don’t place myself above other people and that’s one of my biggest strengths. People with an ego place themselves above others.

I noticed that most people face the same problems over and over again while I constantly face new more difficult problems. Just read some books and forget about the looks.

In conclusion: why I don’t regret the college dropout.

I don’t regret it and I never will regret it because I made smart choices after I dropped out. I made sure that I progressed in life. Most people who drop out of college go downhill after that. I might not always make the right decision but I always make the decision right. That’s the “secret”.

I’ll end this blog with one more quote from the one and only Frank Zappa. Damn that dude was smart.

“If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it.”
― Frank Zappa

You learned a bunch of words but I went to the university of life. I’m still not graduated though, you can’t graduate from that university. It’s an ongoing journey. I live life and I fucking love it! Being a college dropout isn’t that bad at all.
