Demetrious Johnson

Have you ever heard of Demetrious Johnson aka Mighty Mouse? You probably haven’t. But there are multiple reasons on why you should know him! Demetrious Johnson is an MMA fighter who competes in the UFC. He broke the record for most consecutive title defenses in the UFC this weekend. But that’s not all. He did it in a spectacular fashion as well. He pulled off one of the craziest finishes in his most important of his life. Well that’s what the media said off course. They like to blow up everything to put up extra pressure on the athletes. But that didn’t affect him. Let’s take a look on why I included him into the alpha male series.

He’s the second UFC fighter which I wrote a blog about. Conor McGregor was also part of the alpha male series. Now let me introduce you to the greatest UFC fighter that has ever stepped into the octagon.

He’s 5’3 (1m60) and weighs in at 125 pounds (56 kg). Ladies and gentlemen, Mighty Mouse is in the house.

Demetrious Johnson is true to himself

A lot of people are afraid to be themselves. They act differently to be popular or liked by others. Mighty Mouse on the other hand doesn’t do any of that. He likes to be himself and he’s right since it’s the best feeling in the world when you’re true to you. He likes to play video games in his spare time and between training sessions. Some people might call him a nerd but make no mistake he’ll kick your ass. You know what I like the most about him? He doesn’t play an act when he’s in front of the media. No sunglasses, no personality change. He’s just the humble guy who he always is. He even openly admitted that he wants to be a full time game streamer when he retires as a fighter. Do what you love and love what you do remember?

Demetrious Johnson has a smart fighting style

People love brawlers but they forget that you’ll risk brain damage if you’re fighting like this. Mighty Mouse has an extremely smart fighting style. He just takes as less punishment as possible which is smart. He finishes fights but on his own terms. He’s not going to bang. He’s one of the few fighters that actually thinks ahead and wants to be healthy after his career. I believe that it’s good that he doesn’t sacrifice his health and fighting style for a bigger paycheck or fame. People who claim that he’s boring have no clue what martial arts are all about. He’s the best for a reason.

Demetrious Johnson is brutally honest

He didn’t plan on being a UFC fighter, he just wanted to be in shape and that’s why he started training. He mentioned this on the Joe Rogan podcast. Mighty Mouse even worked a fulltime job when he was fighting his first fight in the UFC. He’s also honest about his training routine. Most fighters train 2-3 times a day 6 days a week. He has double training sessions 3 times a week and a single session twice a week. So he has 2 off days and two off nights. He works hard, make no mistake about it. But his approach is actually pretty smart because overtraining is no joke.

Demetrious Johnson is a family man

He’s married to his longtime girlfriend. Only a real man marries the love of his life. I assume that they both realized that hard work is the bases of a good marriage. Mighty Mouse said that he likes to spend a lot of time with his wife and kids. Life is a lot better when you appreciate the small things but you don’t have to take my word for it.

He masters the art of turning the odds in his favor

He doesn’t know his real father, had multiple step fathers and his mother is deaf. It’s sad but he uses this to be a good father himself. He spends a lot of time with his sons and tries to be the best father he can be. He didn’t have an example but I’m sure that he’s doing a good job. But he clearly has sorted his life out and knows where his priorities need to be. That’s something that most men will never get.

Well that’s all for this post. I couldn’t find a header image that wasn’t protected by copyrights so I couldn’t use one. I couldn’t find a lot about him and interviewing him wasn’t possible either. A bit unfortunate, that would have been pretty cool. Training at his gym would have been even cooler.
